The Mountain Out mobile app โ€” loading screen mockup
Coming soon

Our smartphone app is in development

A native mobile app for reporting, checking, and getting notified when The Mountain is out. iOS first, Android next.

One email when the beta opens, one when we launch. No spam ever.

What the app will do

The same mountain reporting app you already use in your browser, native on your phone. Designed for the moment The Mountain comes out, not for sitting at a desk.

  • Current mountain status

Open the app, see the call. Five visibility states from 'Not out' to 'Mountain OUT!', decided by the community in real time.

  • One-tap reporting

Tap a state, submit a report in seconds. No menus, no typing โ€” your phone handles the privacy-preserving location math automatically.

  • Live hexagon map

The full hexagon map, optimized for mobile. Pan, zoom, and see today's visibility everywhere people are reporting from.

  • Active webcams

Browse the same active webcams grid as the site, tuned for one-handed scrolling. Tap any cam for its latest snapshot.

  • Recent reports feed

The last 10 community reports right under the status hero. See where The Mountain is being spotted from right now.

  • Privacy-first location

We compute a coarse hexagonal location on-device and discard your GPS before submitting. Raw coordinates never leave your phone.

App FAQs

  • We're aiming for an iOS TestFlight beta first, with a public App Store release shortly after. Sign up above to be notified โ€” beta invites go out to people who check the "willing to test" box.

  • iOS is first. An Android version is planned for after we've worked the kinks out of the iOS app and the API that powers it.

  • Yes. The core features โ€” reporting, the map, status, and notifications โ€” will always be free. We may add optional premium features later to cover hosting and development costs, but the basics stay free for the community.

  • Push notifications when The Mountain comes out, faster reporting from your camera, and a tighter experience on mobile. The website will always be the public source of truth โ€” the app is about making it easier to participate from your phone.

  • Sign up above and check the "I'm willing to test" box. When TestFlight invites go out, we'll send you one. No commitment โ€” you can ignore the invite if your schedule changes.

  • You'll get one email when the beta opens, and one when the App Store launch happens. No spam in between, no newsletters, no third-party sharing.
